Thom Shepherd in Buda, Nocona, Cedar Creek Lake

Howdy folks –

Writing today from Austin, TX where it’s sunny but slightly cool and breezy. Just got back from a trip to Midway, TX where I spent time with some wounded veterans as part of a ranch roundup for Trinity Oaks, an organization we have worked with many times that takes wounded soldiers and terminally ill children on fun outdoor adventures. This time it was at the Rafter K Ranch where we rode horses looking for new calves that had just been born, branded and inoculated cattle, ate a chuck wagon BBQ dinner, sang and shared stories ’round the campfire, and rode around in Rangers checking out the 3000 acre property owned by my Tejas Vaquero brother and camp captain Tucker Knight.

Staff Sergeant Justin Patterson picks me up while a giraffe licks the back of his head.

Another great event we attended this weekend was the Clays for a Cause Shooting Event that is put on by Women’s Orthopedic Global Outreach, at the Joshua Creek Ranch. Our friend,  Dr. Amanda Marshall Rodriguez is one of the doctors who go to third world countries and do free knee replacements for people in need. (She also is a sponsor of our Lone Star Luau)

Coley and I are proud to donate our time to help out both of these great organizations.

I have a new video about songwriting that I recorded recently. Check it out here. Please subscribe to my YouTube Channel and Like the video and leave me a comment to let me know what you think.

What would you like to learn about songwriting? Shoot me an email at and I’ll create a video about it.

And speaking of songwriting, do you or someone you know have an interest in learning the craft of writing songs? I am developing some songwriters getaway trips to help you improve your craft. As of right now, there is one in the works that may potentially take place the second week of June near Sandpoint, Idaho (details are pending.) But also, for the first time ever, there will be a songwriting class component to our annual Songwriters Island Isla Mujeres trip, which is October 11-15 in Mexico. It doesn’t matter if you write songs or not, all are welcome to attend these fun seminars in addition to the pub crawls, shows, and swimming and hanging out on the beach. .

Who wants to go float the river and hear some GREAT Music? Tunes ‘n Tunes 2 is June 1-3, with a VIP party on May 31st featuring hit songwriter David Lee.

This week I’m performing at the Tavern On Main in Buda, TX Thursday night at 7:30. Coley and I will be performing with our band at Nocona Nights in Nocona, TX on Saturday, April 14 and in Seven Points TX at the Cedar Creek Brewery on Sunday afternoon.

Just a few more weeks until we head to Florida for the first annual Palm Coast Songwriters Festival!
